FEAR OF DEATH VS. LOVE OF CHOCOLATE, ICE CREAM, PIZZA AND BEER – by Gary Smolker

QUALITY OF LIFE

I am seventy two years old.

I have high cholesterol and high triglycerides.

I haven been advised to take statins to lower my cholesterol level and to avoid eating sweets.

END OF LIFE DECISIONS

End of life decisions are not easy.

Last night, for dinner, I ate a dark chocolate covered mint chocolate chip ice cream bar (this bar is not a reduced fat food), a dark chocolate covered caramel and a dark chocolate covered toffee.

Later, for a snack, I ate a carrot.

MOSQUITOES

I am becoming an accidental expert on mosquitoes, mosquito bites, mosquito repellents and Yellow Fever.

According to what I’ve read, you are not supposed to drink beer if you want to avoid being super attractive to mosquitoes.

What am I to do, what am I going to do, when I eat a delicious pizza in Sao Paulo, Brazil?

 

I am going to be dinning in the best pizzeria in Sao Paulo – a world famous pizzeria in Brazil – in August.

I occasionally drink beer when I eat pizza.

I was planning on drinking a cold beer while eating a pizza in that pizzeria (see photo of pizza above) until I learned, there has recently been an outbreak for Yellow Fever in Brazil, transmitted by mosquitoes.

I’ve read:

• Big companies have spent big budgets to discover everything and anything that stops mosquitoes from biting.
• 2,500 species of mosquitoes exist in the world.
